11-19 DA BEARS game against the Jets
Greatly depressed" and "super depressed" are the words used at the opening if this weeks New York Jets Therapy podcast with Bad Dog and Bad Pup.
Following last week's exciting upset of the New England Patriots the Jets faced the 8-1 Chicago Bears who were returning to New York for their second game in as many weeks, having lately dispatched that other New York team.
However, while the scores may change one thing remains consistent and that is the lack of love for the refs. Bad Dog starts us off, bemoaning the combined challenges of the Chicago's highly-rated defense and poor calls. Obviously, most of the venom was due to an overturned call on what appeared to be a fumble and moved on to the hefty fine levied against Hobson ($7500!) for the hard hit last week. BadDog couldn't help himself and let the anger show against last week's target, Mirelli, "The integrity of America is going downhill," is how Bad Dog put it.
As for the rest of the game, Bad Dog didn't have much to say about Chad Pennington's mediocre performance (19-35 for 162 yards and two INTs) but they both felt the offensive line held strong. Bad Dog also drew attention to RB Cedric Huston who made only his second appearance of the season running 11 times for 45 yards and showing signs of more to come.
At the same time Bad Dog still has it in for Dyson and Coleman, who he felt both failed the team again on Sunday. Bad Pup, looking for the positive, pointed up the success of the Jets defense, especially their first-half performance.
Brian Urlacher's stellar performance elicited extremely kind words from BadDog, "A 100% football palyer," while Bad Pup wondered why nobody thought to put something in Brian's breakfast to slow him down a little. "Is that cheating? I guess so," concluded the Pup.
Discussion moved back to Pennington and BadDog put him on notice, warning that if he didn't get it together he could certainly see head coach Mangini replacing him for next season. Bad Pup was not quite as ready to completely give up on Chad.
After a brief technical glitch (blamed on the NFL refs) BadDog took the high road congratulating the Bears and Urlacher for their well-earned win.
He also gave some props to Anthony Clement for staying out of trouble and Bad Pup is loving the rookies for working hard. Mangold was even pegged for the Pro Bowl. Props also went to Rhodes and Hobson.
Bad Pup definitely took exception to Mangini's decision to go with an onsides kick but Bad Pup was willing to defend "the Penguin" and gave a shout-out to this writer's favorite position on the field, the punter, serving up kind words about Ben Graham. "He's putting missiles up there" but was still bemoaning place kicker Mike Nugent, "This Nugent's got a pussy leg" (for all things kicker checkout HERE'S THE KICKER at http://thekickoff.blogspot.com). Later in the podcast BadDog returns to the subject of Nugent, begging Mangini to head to Australia to find a better man for the job.
Looking ahead, BadDog sees a lot the teams the Jets are yet to face improving and doubts the team's ability to catch the still-strong NE Patriots while Bad Pup sees the need for some of their rivals to take a few losses to help the Jets' playoff picture.
Before signing off Bad Pup needed to hand out her biscuit of the week to Tim Dwight and Bad Dog agreed enthusiastically with the call.
And, of course, this week's secret phrase was uttered but I'm not tellin'!
