NY Jets Therapy

Even though Bad Dog said the NY Jets would never make the playoffs they proved him wrong in a big way, finishing the season with a convincing win over the Oakland Raiders, racking up a season-total of ten wins and earning a ticket to the post-season. To be fair, Bad Dog was not alone in questioning the teams’ chances. But that is all history and our Dogs were pretty damn excited.

Bad Pup broke out the champagne early and Bad Dog was practically bellowing his praise for the Mangenius – even if Bad Dog’s nephew wanted to know what it takes to get a smile out of the guy.

Onto the game, the first biscuit of the day went to TE Chris Baker for both protecting his QB and making a number of key grabs. Bad Dog kept the praise flowing, singling out WR Cotchery and then, well, just praises the entire team en masse. Bad Pup wanted to know how FS Kerry Rhodes was passed over for the Pro Bowl and Bad Dog blames his favorite whipping boy, ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser. Sticking with favorites, Bad Dog continues to love RB Cedric Houston and proclaims Leon Washington an official star of the NFL. Bad Pup mixes things up a little with a shout-out to WR Brad Smith.

If there was a downside, Bad Pup feels it was that the Jets were soft on run defense, letting the Raiders rack up yards on the ground. If there was something approaching a cheap shot, that would have to go to Bad Dog, who credits the win, in part, to the absence of his despised CB Andre Dyson.

After a brief break to celebrate New Years’ Eve the Dogs were back, albeit a little hung-over, to rehash the playoff scene. Both Dogs congratulated Coach Mangini for leading his team to the playoffs in his first year as head coach and were somewhat amazed to see that Herm Edwards was able to sneak his new team, the KC Chiefs, into the post-season.

Even with all this good news, Bad Dog simply couldn’t let up on Dyson, who is still out with injury. He feels Dyson is the Mangenius’s one coaching mistake and that the team would be far better off with Barrett. He does wish Dyson a speedy recovery, though one might think Bad Dog wouldn’t be too sad to see Dyson remain sidelined for the playoffs.

The Dogs then spent a little time looking over the other games from last week and pointing out what a strong rookie class there was this year. For the Jets that included WR Brad Smith, C Nick Mangold, and, of course, Mr. D’Brickashaw Ferguson, who Bad Dog has high expectations for in the upcoming battle with the Patriots.

Bad Pup turned her attention to Chad Pennington, giving him big props for his strong performance all season long, calling him the comeback player of the year. Even Bad Dog, who has had some problems with Chad in the past, is fully behind him.

Looking ahead to the New England Patriots, the Dogs see the keys to the game being providing enough protection for Pennington and blitzing NE’s Tom Brady whenever possible. Even though they don’t respect coach Belichick on a personal level, they certainly are wary of his field prowess.

So, even though nobody thought it was gonna happen, the Jets are in the playoffs and NY Jets Therapy will continue for at least another week. As Bad Pup points out, the Jets have been strong on the road all season long and the Patriots aren’t quite so unbeatable this year. Still, it’s going to be a tough game for the boys in green and white and the Dogs will be watching with Malox in hand.
